  Hartnell-Marshall 2016

Dave Marshall

Picture

His name is Dave...

... and America needs Dave.

Not just any ol' Dave.

Cousin Dave.

I have a Cousin Dave... and you have a Cousin Dave. Of course, while the likelihood of you actually having a cousin named "Dave" is not impossible, the odds are slim that your Cousin Dave and my Cousin Dave are the same Cousin Dave.

Or are they?

Cousin Dave is more than just a member of my family. While related by blood, we share a bond that is hard to come by these days. Yes, "blood is thicker than water" - but this bond isn't a genetic one. It's even simpler than that.

Our bond is an insatiable love of life... for the people we meet, for the people we work with, for the people we call our friends, for the people we call our family, for the activities we engage in, for the holidays we celebrate, for the get-togethers we enjoy, for the sports we play, for the events we anticipate, for... well... everything.

And all things great in this life can be traced back to... Cousin Dave.

Again, my Cousin Dave is different from your Cousin Dave... because your Cousin Dave may not even be a cousin of yours.

Follow me now.

You see, "Cousin Dave" doesn't just refer to the flesh and blood "Dave". Rather, "Cousin Dave" is term of affection, of endearment, of wonderment, and certainly one of respect.

When someone - or something - is your "Cousin Dave", it means it's your center. It's the one person - or the one thing - that makes you "good again".

Just like spending 10 minutes with my Cousin Dave can fix everything, spending time with your "Cousin Dave" does the same. You leave refreshed, reinvigorated, and ready to tackle the world.

Literally. Dave played football and will teach you how to wrap up life's legs and sack it for a loss.

If Cousin Dave can fix everything, and if Cousin Dave can help President Hartnell get back to "neutral" after a grueling trip to the Middle East, why wouldn't you want him to be in the ear of the President?

But let's allow Cousin Dave to explain why he should be Vice President.

The two have been solving the world's problems for decades. Here's Vice President Marshall [left] and President Hartnell [right] following Hartnell's high school graduation in 1996.

1. I'm from the Midwest... just like Superman.

OK, OK. I know Superman was originally from Krypton. But he was raised in rural Kansas. And he turned out pretty darn good, didn't he? Well, I was also raised in a Midwest town, where I have witnessed both positive and detrimental changes in America. The decay of the Midwestern industrial structure has impacted so many. Yet, this country has such advanced technology that has potential today to be harvested and utilized in even our most remote locations for economic benefit. Economic market opportunities are limitless.  The challenge is to create an environment where they can be identified, created, and cultivated, all while training our citizens to optimize their potential within the most appropriate market opportunities.

2. I know Health Care... and look good in scrubs.

Educated in Economics at Albion College, I have experience in one of the most challenging markets... Health Care. With more than 20 years of experience in health care manufacturing and distribution, I understand the incredible challenges ahead in providing health care for our people, all while sustaining the financial stability of the system. As a country we have an aging population, with an increasing amount of people to take care of, coupled with an increasing cost associated with technological advancements, and a decreasing ability to afford it. We will need solutions to the most difficult issues, including health care.

3. I'm well-traveled.

Having visited 42 states in 48 years, including most major metropolitan areas, I understand what is unique to a region of the country and what needs are more universal. Now more than ever, we are intertwined as technology makes our world smaller. Yet, we seem to be highlighting the extreme and growing apart. Hate is either more acceptable today or it's being generated by some candidates. Either way, it is time to embrace and cultivate our "connectedness", not divide it.

4. I'm married... and a father.

In 2016, I will have been married to the college homecoming queen for 20 years. An expert in educational leadership, the future Second Lady will shape our agenda to support all levels of learning, including the advancement of our universities. She will also join in the efforts of the First Lady to see that the glass ceiling is shattered once and for all, helping pave the future for ALL Americans.

My two daughters represent the future of our country, and they educate me every day on the advances in the world. They help me connect to the post-millennial generation. From Daughters of the Revolution to Digi Fest, they represent the most informed generation in history and will be vital advisers to our platform (even if they leave the room when I try to dance).

5. I'm a redhead... well, I was...

In sports circles, it's a proven theory that when the redheaded player on your team excels, your team wins. Can you imagine the power that D.C. can harness if there are two redheads on the team? I know, I get chills, too.

And don't worry, America... I'm working on my beard, too...
